Event Description The University of Arkansas Fine Arts Center Gallery is pleased to announce Small Models for Huge Failures, an exhibition of recent works by Brian Giniewski. Taking formal cues from Modernism, the history of fine art, ceramics and design, Brian Giniewski seeks context for objects that question ideas of supplementality, use value, and craft. His works hybridize traditional techniques and digital reproduction, embracing both the precision of mechanization and the vulnerability of the hand. Giniewski’s objects, which might be vessels, furniture, or abstract forms, are not experienced in their ‘original’ scale or tactility. Instead, viewers come to know the works at an apparent remove, via large-format digital photography. Giniewski is a graduate of Cranbrook Academy of Art (MFA, 2009) and Millersville University (BFA, 2006). He has been a recent visiting artist at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and Resident Artist at the Clay Studio in Philadelphia. Small Models for Huge Failures will be on view at the Fine Arts Center Gallery from February 22 to March 14. A closing reception will be held on Tuesday, March 13 at 5:30pm. The reception is free to attend and open to the public. |
