Event Description
Ayse Taspinar, internationally acclaimed pianist and musicologist, will speak on ‘Rediscovering the Shared Cultural Heritage of Armenians and Turks through Music’ on Tuesday, November 13 at 12:30 pm in Old Main 208. Dr. Taspinar’s academic work explores the syntheses of local religious and folk melodies into classical Western music in the Ottoman Empire in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Her talk, co-sponsored by the Department of Music and the King Fahd Center for Middle East Studies, is free and open to the public. For more information, call 575-2175 or 575-4178.
