2014 Multiculturalism and Social Justice Symposium

Event Description:
Award-winning author H. Richard Milner IV, the Helen Faison Professor of Urban Education at the University of Pittsburgh, will be the keynote speaker for the 2014 Multiculturalism and Social Justice Symposium. The theme is "Media, Images, and Opportunities: Classroom Connections." Teachers will receive six hours of professional development credit.
The symposium begins with a reception at 5 p.m. June 23 at the Janelle Y. Hembree Alumni House followed by a pre-conference discussion from 6 to 8 p.m. It continues from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. June 24 at the Donald W. Reynolds Center.

Admission Information:
Registration is $99 with a special student rate of $49. That includes a reception with hors d'oeuvres at 5 p.m. June 23 followed by a discussion about how media affects perceptions from 6 to 8 p.m. and breakfast, lunch and snacks on June 24. Register online

The symposium is sponsored by the Department of Curriculum and Instruction in the College of Education and Health Professions at the University of Arkansas.

The hours of symposium on June 24 are 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Additional information about the keynote speaker is available on the registration site. His talk is titled "Teaching and Learning With Pop Culture: Music, Movies and More."
