Event Description:
Phi Delta Theta is hosting a healthy relationship seminar that will touch on sexual assault on college campuses, how to have a healthy college relationship, how to help yourself/others when not in a healthy relationship and bystander training for relational violence. Our goal is for every student at the University of Arkansas to have a healthy and safe college experience. Sexual assault and relationship violence cause immeasurable harms to students, including their abilities to persist in their academic endeavors, increased feelings of loneliness and isolation, and serious mental health concerns. With nearly one quarter (23%) of dating college women reporting that they are/have experienced violent and abusive dating behaviors, it is imperative that students are provided the opportunity to address the challenges attached to young adult relationships. Equally important is our acknowledgment of the complexities related to dating abuse pertaining to college students such as substance use, technology, relational experimentation, as well as being away from home. Our keynote speaker, Rachel DeAlto, will teach students what expectations they should set to build healthy relationships, how to spot the warning signs of abusive or unhealthy relationships with themselves and/or others, tips on how to build self-esteem, and how to prevent potentially toxic relationships. Mrs. DeAlto will be joined by Dr. Derek Gwinn from John Brown University Center for Healthy Relationships and a representative from Pat Walker CAPS. The event is free and open to all UofA students and will be held in the Arkansas Union Ballroom, where dinner will be served.

This event is supported by the Student Activities Fee as a funded event by the Associated Student Government and is free to all currently-enrolled University of Arkansas, Fayetteville, students who pay the student activities fee.
