Event Description:
Arkansas, as a newly created state, needed a means of transportation to speed its development, and the construction of railroads had a significant impact. Some towns were created where none existed, and some towns faded away because the rails weren’t laid close enough to the town limits. The Civil War halted the expansion of rails in NW Arkansas with only thirty-eight miles of useable track. Mike Sypult and Malcolm Cleaveland, both members of the National Railway Historical Society, will team teach and include information on “The World’s Greatest Hobby,” model railroading.
