Event Description:
Yalda is often heralded as the longest night of the year due to its timing – at the winter solstice. Yalda is a celebratory event of the winter solstice and is an ancient Persian festival. This festival is to celebrate the renewal of the Sun and the coming of winter. Yalda has roots in Zoroastrianism and Babylonian traditions and much of its customs arose from these roots. Often on this night, Persians will stay awake during the night partaking in nuts, watermelon, and pomegranate as well as performing readings of poetry and mythos.
