Event Description:
The Ko-ko-ci Chapter of the Arkansas Archeological Society will hold its meeting Wednesday, February 13 at 7pm at the Washington County Cooperative Extension Office. Guest speaker George Sabo III will present “The Archeology of Native American Story Telling.” Story telling is a powerful instrument for teaching, learning, and creating new knowledge and information among Native Americans past and present. To what extent is information about ancient story telling accessible to archeologists? Story telling is not often the source of diagnostic material residues, except where artworks are produced to support the story telling, such as in decorated pottery and engraved shell. This presentation will examine artifacts from Spiro Mound Center in Oklahoma and the Carden Bottoms site in central Arkansas that shed light on Southeastern Native American story telling.

This event will be held at the Washington County Extension Office at 2536 N. McConnell Ave., Fayetteville, behind the Arkansas Archeological Survey building and across from the Washington County Fairgrounds entrance. Refreshments served. Free and open to the public.
