Mr. Bandy will talk about how he came to work in tribal government, Quapaw history and historic preservation, as well as Section 106 and the experience of working with professional archeologists from the perspective of a tribal member and the Quapaw THPO. He will also walk through an example of how the regulatory process can go wrong and how it can succeed in preserving sites of historic importance.

My name is Everett Bandy and my Indian name is Mą́ke ot^hí̜. I am an enrolled member of the Quapaw Nation, and serve as the Director of the Quapaw Nation Historic Preservation Program and the Tribal Historic Preservation Officer for the Quapaw Nation. I also represent Eastern Oklahoma as an elected board member National Association of Tribal Historic Preservation Officers (NATHPO), as well as being a member of the Quapaw Gourd Dancers, and the elected secretary of the Quapaw Native American Church. I previously served as an appointed member of the Quapaw Grounds Committee, served 7 years on the Quapaw Powwow Committee and was an elected Board Member for the Dhegiha Language Preservation Society.
