https://awards.uark.edu/The Office of Nationally Competitive Awards is pleased to announce the launch of the University of Arkansas Beckman Scholars Program and the opening of applications for the 2026 cohort. An informational session will be held on Wednesday, January 21, 2026, from 4:00–5:00 PM in Silas Hunt Hall, Room 223 (the upstairs tour room).
The Beckman Scholars Program, funded by the Arnold and Mabel Beckman Foundation, provides an intensive undergraduate research experience for highly motivated students pursuing research careers in the biological sciences, chemistry, biomedical engineering, chemical engineering, and related STEM fields. Each year, two University of Arkansas students will be selected to receive 15 months of continuous research support, spanning two consecutive summers and the intervening academic year, under the mentorship of approved faculty researchers. Total award amount is $26,000 per student.
During the information session, staff will provide an overview of the Beckman Scholars Program, eligibility requirements, and program expectations. The session will also cover application components, the review process, and guidance on preparing competitive materials. The program is particularly well suited for (but not limited to) research-focused sophomores who plan to pursue graduate study and future national fellowships such as the Goldwater Scholarship and NSF Graduate Research Fellowship Program. Juniors are also encouraged to apply, as you may participate in your second summer of research following your spring graduation.
Students interested in sustained, mentored research and long-term preparation for advanced study are strongly encouraged to attend.
