DESCRIPTION:The Office of Nationally Competitive Awards is pleased to annou
 nce the launch of the University of Arkansas Beckman Scholars Program and 
 the opening of applications for the 2026 cohort. An informational session 
 will be held on Wednesday\, January 21\, 2026\, from 4:00–5:00 PM in Sil
 as Hunt Hall\, Room 223 (the upstairs tour room).\n\nThe Beckman Scholars 
 Program\, funded by the Arnold and Mabel Beckman Foundation\, provides an 
 intensive undergraduate research experience for highly motivated students 
 pursuing research careers in the biological sciences\, chemistry\, biomedi
 cal engineering\, chemical engineering\, and related STEM fields. Each yea
 r\, two University of Arkansas students will be selected to receive 15 mon
 ths of continuous research support\, spanning two consecutive summers and 
 the intervening academic year\, under the mentorship of approved faculty r
 esearchers. Total award amount is $26\,000 per student.\n\nDuring the info
 rmation session\, staff will provide an overview of the Beckman Scholars P
 rogram\, eligibility requirements\, and program expectations. The session 
 will also cover application components\, the review process\, and guidance
  on preparing competitive materials. The program is particularly well suit
 ed for (but not limited to) research-focused sophomores who plan to pursue
  graduate study and future national fellowships such as the Goldwater Scho
 larship and NSF Graduate Research Fellowship Program. Juniors are also enc
 ouraged to apply\, as you may participate in your second summer of researc
 h following your spring graduation.\n\nStudents interested in sustained\, 
 mentored research and long-term preparation for advanced study are strongl
 y encouraged to attend.
