Abstract

Vagus nerve stimulation (VNS) uses an implanted device to stimulate the vagus nerve, which is part of the circuit that links your neck, heart, lungs and abdomen to your brain.  VNS is currently used to treat epilepsy, depression and to improve motor recovery following stroke when other traditional treatments aren’t working. In addition, we are exploring new applications of VNS to restore the nervous system, including repairing lost myelin in models of multiple sclerosis.
