About this Event
340 N. Campus Dr., Fayetteville, AR
Rolena Adorno, Sterling Professor Emerita of Spanish at Yale University, will visit the University of Arkansas from Tuesday, April 11, until Thursday, April 13. During her visit, she will present "Cervantes and Don Quijote at Home and Abroad" on Wednesday, April 12, at GEAR 026 (Honors College) at 5:00 pm.
Alonso Quijano transforms himself into Don Quijote de la Mancha, and as Don Quijote, he becomes a mentor to Sancho Panza. He persuades Sancho to become his squire by promising him an island of which Sancho may become the governor. With this idea in his head, and Don Quijote’s encouragement, Sancho too becomes transformed. We will see how this happens and also how Cervantes becomes the reader of his own novel as he contemplates his past service to the Spanish Crown and his hope for reward.
On April 13, from 3:30 pm to 6:00 pm at WCOB 437, Professor Rolena Adorno will deliver a lecture in Professor Violeta Lorenzo's Latin American Essay's class. During this lecture, she will compare Eduardo Lalo's essay, "El Caribe gris: alegato por una escritura caribe," with the texts of Fernando González de Oviedo and Bartolomé de Las Casas.
