About this Event
Soccer is undeniably the world’s most popular sport. Yet, few observers of the game pause to interrogate its unrivaled global popularity. From a seemingly innocuous endeavor enjoyed by members of the British working class in the nineteenth century, how did the game subsequently spread throughout the world and come to dominate the global sporting landscape? Todd Cleveland, Associate Chair & DIrector of Graduate Studies in the Dept. of History, will answer this question and explore how soccer reflects the broader, ongoing process of globalization. This lecture previews Cleveland's Spring 2023 Honors College Signature Seminar, Soccer.
