Dogs are our valued companions, but do we know what they are thinking? When we think about their wants and needs, their beliefs, their emotions, are we “anthropomorphizing”, projecting our outlooks onto them? How can we look at things from the dog’s perspective? What are the implications for how we interact with them? In this brief course, Ed Minar, Professor and Chair of the Department of Philosophy and dog trainer / roommate to three Australian shepherds, will look at what dogs are and at recent developments in dog science, with the hope of gaining insight into how best to live and flourish alongside our best friends.
