NSPA dancers will join the Patagonia dancers onstage for a thrilling contemporary ballet tango fusion set to the moving music of Astor Piazzolla. At its core, Patagonia Tango Company is about community. They have been coming to Northwest Arkansas for the past 5 years, building intentional relationships within the community and creating long lasting bonds with the residents and local dancers.

Argentine tango and folklore traditions have their roots in community, family and sharing of culture. Before transforming into a glitzy passionate spectacle on the international stage, tango was a way for immigrants from varied backgrounds to unite around a shared experience and to fill the basic human need to connect and form relationships. Tango, which comes from the metropolitan city of Buenos Aires, encompasses a lifestyle shared amongst different generations, social classes and racial identities. Folklore incorporates various dance and music traditions of rural Argentina, and is the glue that holds rural communities together as well as distinguishes different regions from each other.

Our current production, Furia Tanguera, follows the format of the traditional Casa de Tango shows seen in Buenos Aires plus the inclusion of a traditional ballet folklorico. Furia Tanguera explores the different moods of Buenos Aires, also known as “la cuidad de la furia” (the city of fury). Argentine tango and folklore traditions explore human emotions and relationships with complexity and subtlety and most importantly, care. The artists take you on a journey from whimsy through joy, from regret to rage, and finally to hope. Our beautiful dancers bring you into their dance embrace and our virtuosic singers guide you through the current of complex human emotions.

Patagonia Tango Company is born from the creative partnership of Romina Rodriguez-Crosta and Oscar Mansilla, both dancers since childhood and equally passionate about Argentina and her cultural traditions. Oscar and Romina met in Buenos Aires training under the master teachers Leandro Oliver and Laila Rezk, and kept up professional acquaintances from 2017-2020 with Oscar living in Argentina and Romina in Los Angeles, CA. During the pandemic, they joined the inaugural company of La Casa de Tango in Dubai, the first and only tango show in Dubai. In 2021 they relocated to Los Angeles where they quickly attracted a group of very enthusiastic amateur students interested in learning traditional tango stage choreography. This group of eager students formed the foundation of Patagonia Tango Company, a group that stood out for the good vibes of the members. It was a project that blossomed naturally in the vacuum left by the global pandemic. The early days of Patagonia filled the need for community, connection and purpose of a world returning back to normal. Over the next several years, Patagonia evolved into a professional dance company featuring higher and higher level artists and events. Now Patagonia is a world class dance company that keeps at its heart the commitment to community and human connection.
