 cture with renowned artist and filmmaker Sky Hopinka. A recipient of the M
 acArthur "Genius Grant" Fellowship\, Hopinka will share insights into his 
 creative process\, spanning film\, photography\, and text-based works\, an
 d reflect on how his personal experiences inform his documentary forms of 
 media.\n\nHopinka (Ho-Chunk Nation/Pechanga Band of Luiseño Indians) is a
 n internationally acclaimed artist whose work explores Indigenous homeland
 \, language\, and landscape. His films have been featured at major festiva
 ls including Sundance and the New York Film Festival\, and his exhibitions
  include the Whitney Biennial and LUMA Arles. He is currently Assistant Pr
 ofessor of Film at Harvard University.\n\nThis event is free and open to t
 he public.\n\n \n\nMore about Sky Hopinka\n\nSky Hopinka (Ho-Chunk Nation/
 Pechanga Band of Luiseño Indians) was born and raised in\nFerndale\, Wash
 ington and spent a number of years in Palm Springs and Riverside\,\nCalifo
 rnia\, Portland\, Oregon\, and Milwaukee\, Wisconsin. In Portland he studi
 ed and taught\nchinuk wawa\, a language indigenous to the Lower Columbia R
 iver Basin. His video\, photo\,\nand text work centers around personal pos
 itions of Indigenous homeland and landscape\,\ndesigns of language as cont
 ainers of culture expressed through personal\, documentary\, and\nnon fict
 ion forms of media.\n\nHopinka’s films have played at various festivals 
 including Sundance\, Toronto International\nFilm Festival\, Ann Arbor\, Co
 urtisane Festival\, Punto de Vista\, and the New York Film\nFestival. His 
 work was a part of the 2017 Whitney Biennial\, the 2018 FRONT Triennial an
 d\nProspect.5 in 2021. He wxas a guest curator at the 2019 Whitney Biennia
 l and participated\nin Cosmopolis #2 at the Centre Pompidou. He has had a 
 solo exhibition at the Center for\nCuratorial Studies\, Bard College\, in 
 2020 and in 2022 at LUMA in Arles\, France. Hopinka is\nthe recipient of t
 he Infinity Award in Art from the International Center and the Alpert Awar
 d\nfor Film/Video and fellowships including The Radcliffe Institute for Ad
 vanced Study at\nHarvard University\, Sundance Art of Nonfiction\, Art Mat
 ters\, The Guggenheim Foundation\,\nand The Forge Project. In the fall of 
 2022\, he received a MacArthur Fellowship for his work\nas a visual artist
  and filmmaker. Hopinka is currently an Assistant Professor of Film at\nHa
 rvard University.
